Institute of Linguists UK

by Mary Fullam
(Dublin, Iteland)

I obtained the Diploma in Translation from the Institute of Linguists in the UK in the Nineties.

I studied for it (Evenings) in Dublin, Ireland at Kevin Street College of Technology.

I have not worked as a professional translator, except for a few freelance assignments over the years, but would like to pick this up again as will soon be retiring from my current career in HR, so would like information on available “refresher” courses so that I could offer my services as a translator (German to English) in the future.

Any help would be most welcome!

Many thanks.

Mary

Hi Mary

Thanks for getting in touch, and well done on getting your Diploma in Translation!

I looked up the Kevin Street Institute of Technology in Dublin, but unfortunately it looks like they have stopped running that course.

Re. refresher courses to get you back up to speed, I'd suggest getting in touch with Susan James at Translator Training and perhaps doing a course with her to judge your current abilities.

Or try one of these sources of free translation - translate one of the German texts and compare your efforts with their published translations.

Plus, if you're still a member of the CIOL, they are now offering members access to lots of online webinars.....

Best of luck, and do stay in touch!

Joanna

German to English Translation

Joanna Scudamore-Trezek

I'm a German to English translator living and working in Vienna, Austria. I turn German texts into clear and accessible English, allowing clients to present their stories, ideas and information to a completely new audience. My business and marketing clients rely on me to get their message across clearly and effectively.  How can I help you today?
